Sadie Visscher

January 21, 1932 — August 21, 2023

Sadie Visscher 1/21/1932 - 8/21/2023

Sadie Visscher, passed peacefully into the loving arms of Jesus on the afternoon of August 21, 2023.

Born on a Michigan farm in '32, Sadie was the youngest of Wiebren and Afka Heeringa. First of her family born in America; brothers George, Jess, and Peter were born in the Netherlands.

In 1951, Sadie met her husband, Herman, in Denver on a trip while visiting her friends Arlene and Julius, who was serving as an Airman with Herman. Herman courted Sadie by writing letters from various airbases to Michigan, love blossomed, and the rest is history.

They married on 2/27/53, in Grand Rapids and moved to Great Falls, MT. When the Korean War ended they moved to Everett where they attended the Christian Reformed Church until their deaths. A life-long Christian, Sadie attended Bible Studies and read her Bible cover to cover.

Sadie worked for Bell Telephone, and as a Kelly Girl. She eventually took on the role of bookkeeper for Visscher Builders, which she thoroughly enjoyed - while also cleaning the newly finished buildings like no one but a “Dutch” woman could.

They raised a family filled with rustic camping, hiking and boating trips, and nearly 40 years of 4th of July holidays around the swimming pool.

Sadie’s hobbies included sewing, reading, and navigating their RV road trips while exploring the country and visiting family and numerous friends. Working in her yard is where she found great peace and happiness.

Sadie was sweet with doling out cookies to the neighbor kids, and generous with her donations to family and many worthy causes.

Sadie experienced sorrow for those preceding her in death - both her parents, baby Johnny, three brothers, son-in-law Rick, and, Herman in 2015.

She is survived by her 3 children, Carol Bury, Sharon [Paul] Westra, and Bryan [Memory] Visscher and 6 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

The family wishes to thank those who spent time visiting and caring for Sadie in her final years. We are grateful she is at peace.

In remembrance, donations are welcomed at the Everett Gospel Mission, Elim Christian Services (Illinois), or Wenatchee Rescue Mission.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, September 5 at 11 a.m. at Everett Christian Reformed Church, 1429 McDougal Ave.
