Nelson Craig Thompson, age 80, went to be with the Lord on October 24th 2024. Craig was born March 5, 1944 in Everett , WA. He attended schools in Snohomish and graduated from Snohomish High School in 1962. He partcipated in many actvites and sports in high school, including track and cross country. He went on to earn a track scholarship at the University of Washington where he studied Metallurgical Engineering and graduated in 1966. He also earned an Industrial Engineering degree from the UW in 1975.
In July of 1960 he met Linda Keefe at a church (First Baptist Church in Everett) volleyball event, and they began daying that summer. They married September 17, 1965, and were happily married for 58 years. After graduating from the University of Washington in 1966, Craig and Linda moved to California where he took a job with Shell Chemical. While in California son Jeff and daughter Kathi were born.
In 1970 he left Shell and they moved back to the Everett area. Craig took a job with the City of Everett and then Snohomish County PUD. While at the PUD Craig became active in the American Water Works Association where he received the George Warren Fuller award in 1991. He retired from the PUD in 2001 as the Assistant General Manager, and then spent a couple years at CH2M Hill as a Consultant before deciding to work for himself (NCT Engineering).
When the kids reached school age Craig was elected to the Lake Stevens School Board and continued serving until after both kids had graduated. Craig was very involved in his kids’ lives. He coached their youth sports, took them camping and fishing, and always had time to help them with school work.
In 1994 Craig and Linda built their dream house on Lake Shoecraft. They kept their lawn and gardens immaculate, and loved to have family and friends over for picnics and holiday gatherings. They were very active in their church. They were members of First Baptist Church in Everett and then Allen Creek Community Church in Marysville.
He loved his three grandchildren (Mitch, Grant, and Kira) dearly, and always looked for opportunyunities to spend time with them. Whether it was having them out to lake in the summer to swim or attending their school and sporting events, he cherished every minute.
Before and after retirement he and Linda were able to travel with friends. Traveling included trips to Spain, Portugal, Morocco and the Britsh Virgin Islands with the Wubbenas, Gordons, and Merrys and several trips to Hawaii with Family and long-time friends Pat and Gary Tallmadge. Travel also included trips to Banks Lake with the Herb and Hank Thompson families.
Craig leaves behind a son Jeff (Nancy), a daughter Kathi (Jon David), and three grandchildren, Mitch, Grant, and Kira; three sisters Joan, Terry, and Kathy and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Linda, brother (Bill), his father (Herb) and mother (Evelyn).
A memorial service for Craig will be held on Saturday, November 16th at Allen Creek Community Church (7314 – 44th Ave. NE Marysville, WA 98270) at 11:00am.
