JoAnne Nielsen, of Mukilteo, passed away on December 16th after a tough battle with liver cancer. Born July 2nd, 1947 in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, the first child of George and Alberta Richmond, she grew up both there & Billings, Montana. She attended college at Seattle Pacific University graduating with a degree in education. She taught elementary for 30 years, most of them in the North Shore School District.
JoAnne loved traveling and amassed almost 40 cruises after retirement. Many with her husband of 50 years: Tom. She also loved playing cards with lifelong friends, backgammon and her Bunko group. Her friendship, travels and adventures in the “4 couples of Mukilteo” group spanned over 4 decades. Most of all though JoAnne loved to read, always with a stack of her favorite authors from Sno-Isle library. She could vividly remember all the main characters, plot points and paint the picture to anyone interested.
She will so fondly be remembered for her beautiful smile, her otherworldly attention to detail and organization, her warmth, kindness, generosity and being such a great mother, sister, aunt & friend.
JoAnne was preceded in death by her parents George & Alberta and her husband Tom. She is survived by her son Mike, her sister Jeanne and her brothers Dave and Lee.
