In Memoriam
Alexander Erskine Coutts 19/6/1942 to 20/12/2023
Alex peacefully succumbed to cancer on December 20 after bravely battling for several months. Alex led a life of quiet adventure. Born in Murree, a faraway charming colonial town nestled in the Himalayan foothills, now in Pakistan. His father was a mining engineer. His formative years were spent in Scotland culminating in a Mechanical Engineering degree with honours. His brother Neil was the academically gifted one whereas Alex had to work hard for his qualification. He was very fond of his family especially his mother who was tragically killed in a freak storm.
Following the counsel to “Go West, young man” Alex used his engineering degree to obtain employment with Boeing in Seattle. He was pursuing dreams of new adventures but leaving his family behind was hard. He might well have returned to his beloved Scotland and family after leaving Boeing, but he had embarked on his greatest adventure when he met his soulmate, Shelia. They had 45 happy and complete years together and seldom left Seattle. Alex enjoyed reading his daily newspaper and despite his quiet nature made friends easily. He was a perfect gentleman with impeccable manners. He was kind and always put others first.
His sister Jane was able to visit him from Scotland recently and he seemed to enjoy a period of remission from his cancer struggle. They remembered details from their childhood, and both delighted in their brief reunion. The family wish to thank the Norse Home and his angelic friend Christel for everything they did to make his time comfortable and enjoyable. Jane and Neil, and Alex’s many nieces and nephews, will cherish their memories of a much-loved brother and uncle.
