Mary A Kortge

Mary Kortge passed away peacefully on October 25th, 2019 in Lake Forest Park Washington, with her son Ken by her side. Mary was born in Fort Wayne Indiana in 1919. Five years later the family moved to Hudson Michigan where her dad started his 35 year practice as a chiropractor. Mary went to kindergarten thru high school in the same building and was valedictorian of her 43 high school graduates. Mary attended Michigan State University where she majored in retailing and merchandising. After graduation from MSU she took a job with the US Army Signal Corp in Detroit. She married her college sweetheart Ralph and moved to Chicago where their son Ken was born. Mary became involved with child rearing, volunteering, playing golf, and enjoyed vacations in Michigan with family. After Mary's husband retired, they moved to Pinehurst North Carolina, a well-known and historic golf town and country club. When Mary's husband stopped playing golf, they moved to Washington State to be close to their son. Mary's husband Ralph passed away at age 96 in 2014, just before they would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. Mary, who celebrated her 100th birthday in May, passed away in the adult family home where she lived for the last 4 years. She is survived by her son Kenneth Kortge of Lopez Island Washington.
